FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 19, 2007
Stars to Show Support for Trees for Troops
More Than 15,000 Trees Expected to be Distributed to Military
Families
Valley Glen, CA - Two well-known Hollywood stars will lend
support to a local Christmas tree distributor and the nationwide
Trees for Troops program this holiday season. Mike Farrell
(best known for his years on M*A*S*H, along with roles on
Providence and National Geographic Specials) and Award-winning
actor Samuel L. Jackson (recognized for his work in
movies such as Pulp Fiction, The Negotiator and Coach Carter)
will be on site at the Santa & Sons Christmas tree lot
in the San Fernando Valley on Saturday, December 1, at 1:30
p.m. to help with the collection of trees for the program.
Trees for Troops, sponsored by FedEx and the Christmas SPIRIT
Foundation, is expected to deliver 15,000 to 17,000 trees
this year to military families across the United States and
overseas. To encourage participation in the program, Mark
Rohlfs, owner of Santa & Sons Christmas Tree lot, has
agreed to match every tree donated by the public. The Christmas
tree lot will have cards for donors to fill out and attach
to the Christmas trees. Additionally, Mike Farrell will have
live evergreen seedlings to distribute to the first 200 donors
to take home and plant.
"We are delighted and very grateful that Samuel L. Jackson
and Mike Farrell can be here to help us and the Christmas
SPIRIT Foundation's Trees for Troops program," says Rohlfs,
an Oregon tree grower whose lot has been operating in the
Los Angeles area since 1992. "This gives everyone a chance
to do something to let deserving military families know that
we are thinking about them this Christmas."
The FedEx collection trailer will be on site at the lot on
Saturday and Sunday, December 1 and 2, for the public to stop
by and donate a tree. Consumers may also call (818) 501-8637
to donate a tree.
Santa & Sons Christmas Trees is located at 12901 Burbank
Boulevard at the corner of Coldwater Canyon in Valley Glen
at the Los Angeles Valley College.

Grossman Burn Center
LA Fire Captain Ruda arranged for his fire team to install
a tree donated by Santa and Sons to the Grossman Burn Center
in Sherman Oaks. Dr. Grossman topped the tree with some help
from the Van Nuys fire department ladder truck.

There are always a lot of very happy young faces on the morning
Santa and Sons delivers an 18' foot Noble Fir to Los Angeles
Family Housing. Ken Gerston arranged for this tree to be delivered
starting in 1999. When these kids remember the giant Christmas
tree from their youth, they'll remember putting on the top
decoration from the second story window!

Christmas
should be joyful; a time to revel in the beauty of the season
and a time to demonstrate a generous spirit benefiting one's
neighbors and community.
Santa and Sons recognizes their unique role in spreading holiday
cheer to people in need of some of that Yuletide spirit. Acting
like Santa is great fun and so is delivering some special
trees for Mark Rohlfs, the owner of Santa & Sons. Somewhat
resembling Santa with his long hair and gray beard, Mark cheerily
moves out in the community to drop off trees and this year
is working with The
Christmas Spirit Foundation and FedEx to donate trees
to "The trees for troops program". If you would
to donate a tree call us at 818-501-8637.
For the last two years, Santa & Sons have given away little
trees, too. With Rick Dees and Ryan Seacrest on the early
morning show KIIS-FM 102.7, they have given away over 600
kid-sized trees to people in need.
