Nordmann
Fir is a new type of Christmas tree in America but has been
used for many years in Europe, and is one of the most commonly
grown Christmas tree species in Germany and Norway. Nordmann
Fir (Abies nordmanniana) is a true fir tree native to the
Republic of Georgia and northern Turkey.
Grown experimentally
in Oregon for the last twenty years, superior seed sources
and improved production methods have produced absolutely
beautiful trees that look like the perfect Christmas Tree.
Now some of the production fields are starting to harvest.
Because of their very limited plantings over the last eight
years here in Oregon, there are just not very many tree
lots that offer Nordmann Fir yet. We just introduced our
first cutting a just few years ago.
Nordmann Fir have beautiful
soft shiny needles with a deep green color laid out in even
rows on the twig. They are very durable so they last exceptionally
well, usually keeping well into January. Because the branches
are evenly spaced and very strong, they are perfect for
showing off special large or heavy Christmas ornaments.
This species will undoubtedly
become one of the most sought after Christmas trees over
time as word really gets out. Our Nordmann Fir are currently
available up to about 10' feet tall. This Christmas if you
feel like trying something new, gather the family around
a Nordmann Fir. They are a remarkable Christmas tree.
